The village is a perfect base for cycling, hiking, or mountain biking in the foothills of the Pyrenees.

A huge variety of beaches are closeby: the long, wide sandy beaches of Argelès-Plage and Le Racou are a ten minute drive away, unless you prefer the beachfront towns of Collioure (20 minutes drive) or Saint-Cyprien (25 minutes drive). The Côte vermeille, stretching from Argèles to Cerbère is dotted with small coves perfect for swimming and lounging. Location / How To Get Here

Laroque-des-Albères is a village in the Département of the Pyrénées-orientales in the deepest southwest of France. The region has good transport connections for planes, trains, and cars.

Driving

You can drive to the historical cities of Spanish Catalunya (Figures (45 mins), Girona (1 hour), Besalu (1 hour). Of course, you can also visit Barcelona (2 hours drive, or better, 1 hour train ride from Figueres-Vilafant) or the Cathar country sites (Carcassone, and the Cathar castles of Queribus, all within 90 minutes drive).

Even if you travel to Laroque by train or plane, you will need a car (hired or taxi) for the last leg. We strongly recommend that you have a car.

Car rental agencies abound at all airports and train stations. Pro tips when renting cars: if you hire a car in Spain, the agency, on arrival, will charge you cross-border fees, in addition to what you may have already paid upon booking to allow you to take the car into France. Depending on the car rental company, these additional fees can range from 6 EUR per day to up to 28 EUR per day. You can usually find this when looking at “Full rental Terms”, under “Extra Services (payable at counter).

A local railway line winds its way from Perpignan all along the coast, serving Argelès (the absolute closest railway station) to the Spanish border. It is worth taking the train just for the views.
